Get ready, because Brisbane is about to undergo a huge transformation, set to make history. A new world-class precinct and resort is under way, destined to put our city on the map as a tourism, leisure and entertainment destination, more than it has ever been. Forget Syd  – Brisbane’s going to be where it’s all at.

Welcome to Queen’s Wharf. The new precinct will feature state-of-the-art contemporary architecture as well as a variety of new restaurants and entertainment facilities for all to enjoy and to grow and enhance Brisbane’s tourism industry.

Queen’s Wharf will revitalise the city’s forgotten heritage buildings and deliver striking modern landmark architecture along the river’s edge. The design will cover more than 26 hectares including over the water. It will be the hub for all things lifestyle and recreation, featuring fine restaurants, world renowned hotels, exciting nightlife and entertainment, all to be ready by early 2022. Wowzers.

The development will be a joint venture between The Star Entertainment Group, and Hong Kong-based Chow Tai Fook Enterprises and Far East Consortium.

Just by looking at the predicted development you can’t help but get excited. We’ve broken down everything you can expect from the plans and what our city is about to become!

History

Ah yes, history. Don’t dismiss this one yet because it is not boring – if you’re familiar with Brisbane you may be aware of the historic Queen’s Wharf precinct which was the birthplace of European settlement nearly 200 years ago. In the convict era, to the year 1842, the wharf was pivotal to the operation of the Moreton Bay Penal Settlement and was later used as the main boat dock where immigrants from overseas stepped ashore.

It was also home to many indigenous Australians and will hold one of the oldest and greatest collections of culturally significant heritage buildings in the whole of Australia.

The beautiful heritage buildings and surrounding areas will be restored and repurposed providing a unique experience for the public that create stories and memories for future generations to come.

New Development

The whole development is set to cost $3.6 billion and aims to become the landmark the defines Brisbane to the world. The plan is that Brisbane will basically become like Australia’s mini Manhattan. Forget ‘The Big Apple’, will The Big Pineapple have to be re-thought?

The residences are what are really appealing. Queen’s Wharf Residences is planned to be unique and the tallest building in the precinct! The resort-style development will connect to the CBD and across to South Bank.

Retail

Get ready to get your shop on. The precinct is said to host an array of local brands, retailers and offer a multitude of options for every type of shopper including global names. The area will also get 50 new café’s and restaurants.

Hotels

Apparently, our hotel scene is also about to get a major upgrade too, with more than 1000 premium hotel rooms available to stay in. The Star Grand Hotel, Dorsett Hotel, The Rosewood and The Ritz-Carlton Hotel are a few of the wonderful hotels said to be developed. Fancy.
